The Greenwich Free School

Parental advocates

Overall, the parents of 278 primary age children have indicated that they wish to list the Greenwich Free School as one of their choices for their school.

Liz Griffiths is our lead parental advocate. Her year 6 daughter, Megan, hopes to attend the school.

'I'm excited about the Greenwich Free School for lots of reasons. They are going to focus on hiring really outstanding teachers, so we know the results will be good. But they also realise the importance of social skills, and of caring for children's emotional wellbeing. They're not just about doing well in the league tables. Like parents, they want more for their children.'

'Children at the GFS are going to get the opportunity to experience a whole range of extra-curricular activities, and to learn outside the classroom, seeing things all over London.' She pointed out, 'That's great for developing well-rounded kids, but it's also going to be invaluable when they apply for university, or a job.'

Megan (10) has been helping our marketing team deliver leaflets in the area. When asked what made a good school, she said, 'My primary school is nice because everyone knows me. And because of the displays. They put up everyone's photo, and all our certificates for sports teams and for being a good citizen and doing well in lessons.' Her older sister Holly (20) said, 'In big secondary schools that doesn't happen. They're too big to celebrate everyone. Some are too big for the teachers to even know everyone's name.'
