Why will the Greenwich Free School be different?
In designing the Greenwich Free School, we have visited some of the UK's top urban schools, and other Free Schools around the world to ensure the GFS will be a world class school, building on the experiences and proven track records of similar, successful schools.
The Greenwich School provides an outstanding education for its pupils because:
1. High expectations
We insist on high standards from pupils and staff, adopting a 'no excuses' approach to attitude, work and discipline - where everyone takes responsibility for their actions.
2. Curriculum
We focus on depth before breadth - helping our pupils concentrate on mastering the fundamentals, whilst stretching and supporting them in a much more individualised curriculum.
3. Outstanding staff
We invest in recruiting, training and managing outstanding teachers. We give them fewer classes, and fewer pupils in each class, so they can spend more time on each pupil.
4. Small size
Our pupils are in classes of 25, spending more time (and forming a closer relationship) with a form tutor who acts as each child's mentor and oversees all aspects of his or her progress.
5. Extended day
Acknowledging there are no short-cuts to success, our pupils are at school from 8.00 until 5.30, so they spend 1/3 more time learning than most schoolchildren.
6. Excitement
We engage our pupils with school so they want to work hard. Classes are supported by a wide range of extra-curricular activities that reinforce the core curriculum.
