GFP: an update

Following several months of discussions, with current GFS parents, local parents with primary-age children and primary schools around London, the Trustees decided to apply to the DfE to open a primary school and today submitted our proposal.

We were very encouraged by the support the local community showed for the idea, and are keen to help meet the significant shortage of primary school places in Greenwich.

On our primary page, we set out more details of the proposal. The school will be a separate school from GFS, but overseen by the same educational trust. The proposal is currently being developed by a new working group, with support from several GFS governors. This avoids distracting GFS' staff and leadership team - ensuring they remain focussed on GFS' development!

We will find out in April or May whether the DfE will approve us to proceed to the 'pre-opening' stage where funding is awarded to develop the detailed plans and prepare for opening. In our case, we would plan to open to two classes of Reception children in September 2015.

In the meantime, we are now advertising for a primary headteacher in an effort to find the right candidate to lead the school and involve them in its design and development from the outset.
