Greenwich Free School

We believe that all pupils can succeed if given outstanding teaching and pastoral care.

I am delighted to welcome you to the website of Greenwich Free School.

Our core belief is that all pupils can succeed if given outstanding teaching and pastoral care. Our mission is to create a school of the highest standards that achieves this through recruiting and training excellent teachers and support staff and in developing a pastoral system that ensures no child is left behind.

Studying

Now at the beginning of our third year, we have moved into brand new purpose built accommodation that will mean we are even better placed to deliver a high-quality education to the children of Greenwich. We want our pupils to develop as happy, inquisitive and confident young people whose time at GFS fully equips them with the disposition and happiness to be successful in their learning and their lives and fully prepares them for their next steps; be that at University, college or in the career of their choice.

We will work tirelessly to achieve these goals but we also need the support of all involved with the school, especially our parents. At GFS we don’t talk about ability or potential and we certainly don’t label our children but we do talk about effort and strategies and we expect the same at home.

We will provide the highest quality teaching and resources and ensure we offer support where it is needed and stretch and challenge every pupil. In return we expect every one of our parents to commit to our extended day and to uphold the ethos of GFS.

Science

Our extended day is a key part of our offer and we enrich pupils’ experience at school with a wide variety of activities, from extra sports and specialist clubs to extended support for literacy and mathematics. We also spend a great deal of time ensuring that as teachers we are always learning and improving.

GFS was founded on a set of values and these inform all that we do. The school is unwavering in its commitment to these values and we expect a great deal from every one of our pupils in ensuring they live up to them every day. GFS is not a school where you can take a back seat and drift through your education; as a smaller than average school we are a community of learners and we hold each other to account for our actions and commitment, whether we are a teacher or a pupil.

  • Growth: The conviction that improvement is always possible and the determination to continuously develop
  • Fellowship: The knowledge that the interests of others are as important as my own and the commitment to act as a positive member of the community
  • Scholarship: The recognition that the acquisition of knowledge and skills is intrinsically valuable and the diligence to pursue mastery of them.
Pens and pencils

It is a rare privilege to help expand a new school and as we welcome our new Year 7 pupils this September I wanted to thank all parents and pupils for the faith they have shown in our vision and their support as we grow.

We are building a great school for Greenwich that will hopefully serve many generations of young people and I look forward to welcoming you in the near future.
